Why We Should Not Compare Achievements

Comparison is the thief of joy

Theodore Roosevelt

It happens all the time. We find someone super accomplished, and all of a sudden that feeling of inadequacy washes over us like a wave. When we compare ourselves, we are essentially luring ourselves into a trap. A trap that we don’t always recover from. However, I’m going to make this super sweet and simple. There’s really one reason we shouldn’t compare our achievements to others:

๐Ž๐ฎ๐ซ ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐š๐ซ๐ž๐ง'๐ญ ๐Ÿ๐š๐ข๐ซ.

We all have different factors which are pulling us in different directions. That’s not to say you shouldn’t strive to improve or accomplish more. But people often strive to achieve a standard that isn’t fair to them. The person you are comparing yourself to has many things helping them reach their potential. Their path looks completely different. There are countless types of people in the world, and you shouldn’t expect to be like anyone else, because you are not them!

The best comparison you can make is to yourself. Strive for progress over perfection. If you constantly focus on how you can better your own lives rather than focus on how your life measures up to others, you might actually be able to achieve more in the long run. You will create a better life for yourself. You can do it!

I would love to hear your opinions on comparison. Feel free to share your feelings here as well. I hope you all enjoyed my post!
